On August 20, 2014, Dan Kessler, Millennial Action Council Adviser, moderated a World Affairs Council of Philadelphia discussion for their Millennial Members following a book talk featuring Congressman Paul Ryan at the Union League.

An investment analyst by day and the National Finance Chair for Young Professionals “Ready for Hillary” on the side, Kessler’s introduction garnered a laugh from the crowd and a visible sigh from Ryan.

While the main program featuring Congressman Ryan included his vision for the GOP laid out in his book, The Way Forward, Kessler saw an opportunity to keep the post-program discussion nonpartisan. He successfully engaged more than 40 Millennials in this fashion, not surprisingly, as 50% of Millennials now identify as politically independent.

As described on their website, “the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to informing and engaging people of all ages on matters of national and international significance. The Council provides its members and the greater Philadelphia community with access to influential figures in the global arena as well as opportunities to visit fascinating destinations through its unique travel program.  With the support of individual and corporate members, the Council’s global education program enhances the education of area students who are the citizens, workforce and leaders of the future.”
