APRIL 26, 2016

This Wednesday afternoon, dozens of young Vermonters from around the state will join lawmakers to engage in a meaningful discussion to envision the future and how we might create new opportunities for the young workforce. The Vermont Future Caucus, (a caucus made up of young legislators), the House and Senate Commerce & Economic Development Committees and the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, are holding a Vermont Future Summit to build on the work being done by young professional groups, institutions of higher education, and economic development organizations throughout the state.

“I am excited to have an opportunity for us to do an entrance interview with young Vermonters. What are Vermont’s assets and strengths that attract young professionals, and how can we build on them? Having a positively focused conversation led by the next generation of Vermonters can yield new collaboration and policy initiatives,” said Representative Kesha Ram (D-Burlington), a co-chair of the Vermont Future Caucus. Representatives Corey Parent (R-St. Albans) and Diana Gonzales (P-Winooski), both freshman representatives in 2015 and co-chairs of the Vermont Future Caucus, echoed Representative Ram’s desire for increased information about ways to support young professionals. “I’m excited about the opportunity to bring the next generation of Vermont’s leaders to the State House and begin a dialogue about how we can create public policy that allows them to thrive and prosper,” said Parent. Gonzales is looking forward to the opportunity to “learn from the wisdom and experience we have in our state and inform meaningful policy.”

Lisa Rees, a Certified Appreciative Inquiry Coach, will lead the attendees in a meaningful discussion to envision the future of Vermont.
