Young Bipartisan Legislators Join Forces To Overcome America’s Crippling Polarization, Millennial Action Project Adds 15th State Legislature To National Movement

LINCOLN, N.E. —  Next Generation Nebraska, a bipartisan group of state legislators under age 40, announced today they are joining the Millennial Action Project’s national movement of politically diverse young elected officials forging common ground to address issues impacting young people. Next Generation Nebraska will focus on policies that will work to retain and attract Millennials to the state and is the 15th state to officially join the Millennial Action Project.

Millennial Action Project (MAP) works directly with top young policymakers on both a national and state level to spur bipartisan legislation and innovative policy solutions. Other MAP states include ones as diverse as Texas, California, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, in addition to the Congressional Future Caucus.

Next Generation Nebraska will become a part of this nationally recognized group of legislators serving on the front lines of creating a more constructive governing environment. These policymakers convene to exchange ideas and best practices, and highlight how millennial leaders are revitalizing our democracy.

Led by Senator Adam Morfeld (D-District 46) and Senator Brett Lindstrom (R-District 18), Next Generation Nebraska convened nearly a dozen legislators this morning to discuss issues impacting the young people across the state, support policies that young Nebraskans care about, and to particularly focus on recruitment and retention.

“I am excited about the partnership between Next Generation Nebraska and the Millennial Action Project,” said Morfeld. “The very future of our state and country depends on the success of these efforts that support young leaders who may differ in ideology but work hard to find common ground to solve the issues that impact young Nebraskans.”

“Nebraska is at the forefront of up and coming industries that are attractive to young professionals,” said Lindstrom. “The growth of our state depends on keeping and attracting young talent in these expanding industries such as our tech community. I am looking forward to partnering with Millennial Action Project to generate policies that promote economic growth for Nebraska.”

“Millennial-driven approaches through state legislatures are advancing policy ideas that not only propel our nation forward, but also progress the best ideas regardless of political party,” said Millennial Action Project President, Steven Olikara. “I am excited to welcome Next Generation Nebraska to our growing Network and look forward to working together.”

By uniting the political and social capital of the Millennial generation, MAP and Next Generation Nebraska hope to take the steps necessary to overcome America’s historic levels of crippling polarization, forging innovative bipartisan solutions and prioritizing the concerns of future generations in Nebraska and across the nation.

Senator Adam Morfeld represents District 46 which includes Downtown and Northeast Lincoln.  He serves as Chairman of the Bioscience Steering Committee, Vice-Chair of the Election Technology Committee and is a member of the Judiciary, Education, and Department of Correctional Services Special Investigative Committees.  Senator Brett Lindstrom represents District 18 and serves as Chairman of the State Tribal Relations Committee and is a member of the Banking, Commerce and Insurance, Election Technology, Nebraska Retirement Systems, and Tribal Economic Development Committees and the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact Commission.

The Millennial Action Project (MAP) is a national, nonpartisan organization dedicated to activating millennial policy makers to cooperatively govern our country. In 2013, MAP organized the nation’s first and only caucus for young members of Congress, the “Congressional Future Caucus,” to forge pragmatic cooperation on future-oriented challenges. MAP also scaled this model into state legislatures, each with a Future Caucus consisting of young, high-potential legislators. The national Advisory Board includes Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., Governor Jennifer Granholm, and former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra. More information about MAP can be found at futurecaucus.org.
