MAP’s President Pens Op-ed on National Service

On the 20th anniversary of AmeriCorps, Steven Olikara charts a new post-partisan path forward through innovative public-private partnerships.

For this week’s 20th Anniversary of AmeriCorps, MAP President Steven Olikara penned an op-ed in The Huffington Post entitled, “The Post-Partisan Future of National Service.” He suggests this anniversary marks an “erosion of the program’s bipartisan consensus,” and charts a new post-partisan path forward through innovative public-private partnerships.

Leaders of the bipartisan Congressional Future Caucus are already spearheading some of these ideas in Congress, such as the first federal legislation on social impact bonds.

At a time of historic polarization, a Millennial approach to national service can harmonize conservative and progressive values and put our generation back to work rebuilding America. Our nation ought to empower this generation of policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs to create a post-partisan future for national service.
