Release: Millennial Indiana Legislators Announce Formation of Bipartisan Caucus to Address Issues Most Important to Hoosiers Under 40

(INDIANPOLIS, IN) Today, Representatives Dan Forestal (D-100) and David Ober (R-82) announced the creation of the bipartisan Indiana State Future Caucus, a brand-new caucus comprised of state legislators under age 40. This new caucus will be a voice for millennial Hoosiers, who make up more than a quarter of state’s total population. Reps. Forestal and Ober join Millennial Action Project’s national effort to support young elected officials as they work to break through partisan gridlock and reestablish political cooperation on issues that millennials care about. Indiana is the 17th state to join MAP’s Future Caucus network, on the heels of launches earlier this month in Georgia and Mississippi.

“Although millennials outnumber baby boomers in Indiana, many falsely believe that they don’t have a say in the way government operates. But this generation is leading the way forward. By uniting behind the issues facing their generation, this bipartisan group of young legislators can work together to disrupt politics as usual and create meaningful change,” said Steven Olikara, Co-Founder and President of Millennial Action Project. “Thank you to Reps. Forestal and Ober for leading the charge in Indiana to ensure that the issues most important to millennials are a priority.”

Rep. Forestal added, “We join in a common purpose and cause to ensure the concerns of millennials are not lost when the Indiana General Assembly sets its agenda each session. These concerns are not Democratic or Republican. They are concerns of Hoosiers, particularly those of a younger generation who are preparing to face the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

Rep. Ober noted, “As young leaders, we need to encourage others to become involved in the democratic process. We need to work together, across party lines, on issues that impact the lives of young Hoosiers in a positive way.”
